INDIA, Pre-Mauryan (Ganges Valley). Magadha Janapada. Bimbisara and Ajatashatru, circa 544-460 BC. Karshapana (Silver, 26 mm, 3.43 g), series I. Six punches, including six-armed Magadha imperial symbol, sun symbol, leaf, two elephants and a geometric symbol. Rev. Bow and arrow punch together with other punches. Gupta & Hardaker, series I, 66c. The flan somewhat wavy, otherwise, good very fine.

Gupta and Hardaker attribute Series I coins to the kings Bimbisara and Ajatashatru, who were contemporaries of the Buddha.
